about

"Godcunt" is a never before released work from 1993.

PBK: When I received the Minóy tape archives in 2013, I was very interested in discovering any possible unreleased works. Since nothing was known to exist by Minóy after 1992, when he had suddenly and despairingly "terminated" Minóy Cassetteworks, to say it was a surprise to find audio material he had composed in subsequent years (i.e 1993/94), is an understatement. It was a flat out shock! Not to mention finding material of this caliber that doesn't sound out of place in his vast catalog, or somehow dated, or a misstep. The fact is, the late period work sounds even more powerful in it's move away from the dramatic, emotional vocal approach of his early years. Those earlier works were soaring high-wire acts, Minóy out on a limb, naked and daring- they are impressive for their own characteristics. However, in the late period works, the emotion is compressed into a heaving, distorted noise-drone minimalism. These works foreshadow the HNW (harsh noise wall) movement, barren correlations that have sacked all the dramatics, even the ecstatic, and replaced them with oppression, claustrophobia and media-clash via shortwave radio. These are some of the angriest works ever produced by Minóy, but the anger is not set by the tormented human wail, this is a more inner-directed abstraction. Schizophrenic voices in the ears tunneling like worms into the inner brain. These compositions perfectly represent the sound as you would expect given the controversial title of this work.

about

Minóy Torrance, California

Minóy produced some of the most remarkably engrossing, beautiful and imaginative work-of-art albums released on cassette in the 1980s. His music is a form of labyrinthian droning collage electronics that produces an otherworldly effect. It is a form of highly textured, manipulated and layered noise that often creates a sonic painting-like effect. ... more
